Partnering stronger communities
Under the banner, “Partnering Strong Communities”, Alcoa aims to work in cooperation with community organisations to build long-term partnerships leading to sustainable outcomes. Our community partnerships aim to build on the existing strengths of the areas in which we operate, leading to the development of stronger and more inclusive communities in which to live and work. Alcoa’s partnerships align to our core company values and come under the five areas of: Each year, Alcoa invests around $6 million in community partnerships and sponsorships, and a further $8 million in community based apprentices and trainees. Volunteers underpin stronger communities Alcoa’s partnership program is about more than just funding – it is about a shared commitment to making our local communities better places to live and work. Employee volunteerism is an important dimension of Alcoa’s approach to sustainability, with employees encouraged to play an active role in the artistic and cultural life of their communities. In 2005, 82,000 personal hours were volunteered by Alcoa employees in local communities. This employee effort was matched by the Alcoa Foundation who, through ACTION and Bravo grants, provided over $1 million to local community organisations in Australia in 2005. In January 2007 Alcoa was named one one of the most sustainable corporations in the world at the World Economic Forum in Davos for the third year in a row.
